From May 21 to May 23, 2025, the 32nd edition of Dani otvorenih računarskih sustava / Croatian Linux Users’ Conference were held in Zagreb, Croatia. It is the oldest and biggest regional conference that covers free and open source software, open standards, and the Linux operating system. Director of HAARC, Mario Kovač, attedned as a keynote speaker.
The keynote was titled European Processor Initiative – A Cornerstone of Europe’s Digital and AI Sovereignty, and in it, Director Kovač talked about how today’s volatile geopolitical landscape, mastering high-end processor technology is no longer optional — it is a strategic imperative. The European Processor Initiative (EPI) is a flagship EU undertaking, driving the development of high-performance computing (HPC) and AI processors and accelerators entirely within Europe. It also lays the foundation for a robust industrial ecosystem and an innovative R&D community.
He also talked about pilot projects together with EPI - EUPEX and EUPILOT, and the strategic preparation they all served as, for the latest and biggest project in the field in Europe - DARE.
